Retief Goosen, has designed his links course to resemble a seaside links. The design will take the Free State’s natural veld topography into account in order to create this exciting course.
View below to see features:- The mounding on and around the fairways and semi-rough will force views in the playing direction, which in turn, will screen the residential areas from the course.
- As with a seaside links, the prevailing wind will play a major role in club selection during play.
- Greens will be constructed to modified USGA specifications and will be planted with a mixture of SR1120 Brighton and L93 Bent varieties.
- Fairways and surrounds will be shaped with a variety of mounds and cross drainage with a combination of pot bunkers or undulating links-style bunkers. The fairways will be planted with evergreen fescue into the second cut and Cynodon dactylon in the semi-rough. The remaining areas will be planted with a variety of veldgrass species e.g. Rhodes grass, Smuts finger, Cynodon dactylon and two Tef grass varieties.
- Lakes and streams will form water hazards.
- Academy with driving range and practice tee with seven target greens, practice bunkers, putting green and chipping green.
- The links course is designed as two loops of nine holes playing as a par 72 with a total length of over 7 100m.
- A minimum of five tees will be constructed on each fairway, which will provide a greater variety of play and which will be suitable to set up for a major championship or normal leisure golf.
