Kaapsehoop Horse Trails is a well-known and peaceful retreat on the Drakensberg escarpment, 35km from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga in South Africa.
The Horse Trails were established in 1994 by Christo, a 17,000 hectare private concession on the Berlin forestry plantation of Komatiland.
With 30 years of trail riding experience Christo works on a natural horsemanship basis. Here you can enjoy comfortable and safe horse riding whether a beginner or an experienced rider, on the well-trained cross-bred horses, with a choice of english or western type saddles.
Stay over in the farm-style self catering accommodation for a reviving break in the country side, surrounded by nature's tranquility.
As part of our educational programme, there is a fun-filled 5-day pony camp for the kids during school holidays, fun alternative ways of learning is through the tailor made packages for school groups as well as equine student programmes. Also a new edition is the volunteer experience.

Accommodation

The farm-style self catering accommodation offers a reviving getaway in the country side. The houses are fully equipped for your basic needs with barbecue facilities. Fire wood is supplied but it is recommended to bring charcoal with. Note that Kaapsehoop has an altitude of 1600m with temperatures up to 10° cooler than Nelspruit, so do bring some warm clothes.
There is also a coffee shop on site for meals and refreshments.

Horse Riding

Enjoy the soul-reviving adventure of horseback riding, regardless of your riding experience. Your safety, comfort and enjoyment are our priorities, so both beginner riders and experienced riders will quickly feel at ease on our well-trained cross-bred home-grown horses.
All trail rides are guided with the choice of either a trail saddle or an english saddle.
The trails run through undulating grasslands, pine forests and along the breath taking escarpment views.

The following options are available:

  • an hour scenic ride which is suitable for the beginner type rider as well as the not-so-fit rider, though the exerienced rider will also enjoy this ride.
  • the two hour ride is for the more experienced rider who rides frequently.
  • the 4-6 hour ride is for the experienced rider who rides frequently. A minimum of 4 riders are required.
  • for the tiny tots, 6 years and younger, we do lead reign pony rides in and around the stable area, under supervision.
